Arkeolog 8 is a cross-genre dance company. We divide our work between dance art, pedagogy and community involvement through dance. Our artistic expression is characterized by tough, urban dance with power, groove and sharpness.

Arkeolog 8′s niche and strength is the unique and broad background that we have. When we create dance we use qualities from all of our technical dance experience (jazz , modern dance and the various street styles) and this pushes the genre boundaries and creates a special artistic expression. The artistic quality is assured through Arkeolog 8′s knowledge acquired during training at the University of Dance and Circus and Balettakademin in Stockholm.

From our manifesto, one can read that Arkeolog 8 stands for accessible and intelligent dance art. That means we want to create dance with clear entry points and references that a general audience can connect to. Dance should be for everyone to enjoy. We want to be inclusive and outgoing because we believe that (dance )art has an own value in itself. It is everyone’s right to have access to, to exercise and experience. We don’t want to tell people too directly what to see in our performances though – we believe in their ability to think and interpret themselves. We value the narrative form of dance  – it does not have to be chronological or completely logical but fain clear and pronounced. We like it when there are multiple layers to the experience, it may have double meanings to open up for reflections. For us it is also very important with the elaborate physical and we like shape, form and exciting scene images that gives a strong visual experience. The contrast between the unexpected narrative and simultaneously tie together all of the components (music, dance, costume, lights etc) to the core so nothing is left to chance is an essential ingredient in our creative process.
